About us

Public research institution established in 2017

At the Pilecki Institute, we are dedicated to preserving the memory of the consequences of 20th-century totalitarian regimes in Poland and Central-Eastern Europe, honoring the heroes of that era, and promoting accurate, reliable historical knowledge. We also highlight the richness of a culture that remained hidden behind the Iron Curtain for decades, as a testament to the experiences and legacy of our region.

We advance Poland’s development through scientific, cultural, and diplomatic initiatives, creating a platform for broad collaboration among institutions and organizations. Fostering synergy and cooperation lies at the core of our mission, ensuring space for partners who contribute to promoting Poland, its history, and its place in the world.

At a critical moment in today’s world—marked by rising political tensions, the resurgence of authoritarianism, and the spread of misinformation—our experience and historical memory can serve as both a warning and a source of inspiration on the path toward peace and democracy. The Pilecki Institute is a space dedicated to memory, freedom, and dialogue grounded in mutual respect.
